Help Redesign the UK’s Banknotes: Public Invited to Choose New Themes
A once-in-a-generation change is coming to the way we see and feel British money. The Bank of England has announced plans for a major redesign of our banknotes, and for the first time in over 50 years, you can help shape what they look like.

A National Icon, Reimagined
Since 1970, the reverse of Bank of England notes has showcased iconic historical figures—from Churchill to Austen, Turner to Turing. But now, in a bold, inclusive move, the Bank is opening the design process to public input.

The new series of £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes will retain the monarch on the front, but the theme on the reverse is up for discussion. And the options go well beyond famous faces.
Here are a few of the categories the Bank is inviting the public to vote on:
- Nature – Celebrate British flora, fauna, and landscapes.
- Innovation – Honour UK breakthroughs in science and technology.
- Architecture & Landmarks – Showcase castles, bridges, or iconic cityscapes.
- Arts, Culture & Sport – Recognise literature, cuisine, film, or athletic achievement.
- Historical Events & Movements – Highlight defining moments in our collective story.
Or, if you have your own idea, you’re free to propose that too.
Why This Matters to Collectors
For banknote and currency collectors, this is an incredibly rare and exciting moment. The forthcoming designs will mark the first new thematic direction since 1970, meaning the resulting notes could become instant modern classics.

Will we see the return of symbolic Britannia or a move toward the bold designs of other currencies—like Bermuda’s vibrant pink $5 note featuring a marlin, butterflies, and coastal scenery?
Whatever the final decision, this new series will surely become a collectible milestone, especially as physical cash becomes rarer in daily life.
How to Get Involved

The Bank of England is running a public consultation until the end of July. You can:
- Submit your theme suggestion via an online form on the Bank of England website
- Or write to them by post
Chief Cashier Victoria Cleland summed it up best:
“Banknotes are more than just a means of payment. They’re a symbolic representation of our national identity.”
Banknotes are little works of art—tiny time capsules tucked into wallets, passed hand to hand, preserved in collections. This redesign is more than a cosmetic change; it’s a chance to shape the cultural and historical story our currency tells.
As collectors, this is a unique moment to make our voices heard and leave a lasting mark on the notes that future generations may one day treasure.

Princess Diana Collectables: Honouring the People’s Princess
Few figures in modern history have captured the world’s heart quite like Princess Diana. Affectionately known as the People’s Princess, Diana’s compassion, grace, and unyielding dedication to humanitarian causes left a legacy that continues to resonate around the globe — decades after her tragic passing.

A Life That Touched Millions
Born Diana Frances Spencer in 1961, she rose to international prominence in 1981 upon her marriage to Prince Charles. However, it wasn’t her royal title that made her beloved — it was her remarkable humanity.
Diana broke royal traditions by connecting directly with the public. She visited AIDS patients when many still feared the disease, walked through active minefields to support landmine clearance efforts, and embraced people from all walks of life with sincerity and kindness.

Her ability to make everyone feel seen and valued, whether they were royalty or homeless, sick or forgotten, cemented her as a rare kind of public figure — one who led with empathy and heart.
Why We Still Remember Her
Even after her untimely death in 1997, Diana’s memory remains vivid. She is remembered not only for her iconic fashion and royal beauty, but for her tireless advocacy, relatable vulnerability, and deep maternal love for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Her story continues to inspire countless people across generations, and for collectors, owning a tribute to Princess Diana is more than a keepsake — it’s a way to hold on to the memory of someone who symbolized hope, compassion, and change.

The £2 Coins Celebrating the UK’s Quirkiest Traditions
From hilltop chaos to apron-clad pancake dashes, Britain has a proud history of gloriously eccentric customs — and in 2025, they’re finally getting the celebration they deserve. This year, a brand-new series of £2 coins shines a light on five of the most delightfully bizarre and brilliantly British traditions. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a newcomer with a love for all things offbeat, this limited-edition coin release is your perfect slice of homegrown heritage.

A Tribute to Britain’s Quirky Heart
It’s no secret that Britain loves a good tradition — the weirder, the better. And now, this latest coin release captures that spirit in Sterling Silver and Brilliant Uncirculated brilliance. Introducing the British Traditions £2 Coin Collection: five intricately designed coins that pay homage to the eccentric events that make our national calendar so colourfully unique.
So, what’s in the £2 set?
Whether you’re collecting the gleaming Sterling Silver Proof edition, or the crisply detailed Brilliant Uncirculated version, both sets feature the same five wonderfully weird events:

🧀 Cheese Rolling (Gloucestershire)
Every year, brave (or mad?) participants fling themselves down the steep slopes of Cooper’s Hill chasing a runaway wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. The result? Tumbling chaos, bruised egos, and a tradition that could only be British.
🎀 Maypole Dancing
A throwback to our medieval roots, Maypole Dancing sees children and adults alike weaving coloured ribbons to the rhythm of folk music — a celebration of spring, community, and timeless tradition.

🔔 Morris Dancing
Jingling bells, clashing sticks, and vividly decorated costumes define this quintessential folk dance. Whether in village greens or market squares, Morris dancers embody the beating heart of traditional British celebration.
🍳 Pancake Racing (Olney)
Dating back to 1445, this tradition has apron-wearing competitors sprinting through the streets flipping pancakes mid-run. Why? Because Britain loves to turn the ordinary into the utterly extraordinary.

🎆 Bonfire Night
Guy Fawkes, fireworks, and fire-lit effigies: every 5th of November, Britain honours the failed Gunpowder Plot with a sparkling night of rebellion, remembrance, and roasted marshmallows.
Two Stunning Editions — But Only While Stocks Last
This unique collection comes in two finishes, both with their own appeal:

- 🥇 Sterling Silver Proof Set — Crafted in fine silver, each coin is selectively plated in 24-carat gold. With only 495 sets available worldwide, this is an elite, heirloom-quality tribute to Britain’s cultural curiosities.
- 🪙 Brilliant Uncirculated Set — Sharply struck with a pristine finish, this edition is limited to just 2,025 sets worldwide, offering a more accessible yet highly collectable way to enjoy these iconic designs.
Wonderfully Weird. Irresistibly British. Unmistakably Collectable.
At a time when British identity is being rediscovered and redefined, these coins offer a joyful reminder of what makes us unique. From folk festivals to fearless food-based sports, every coin in this set is a tiny masterpiece of nostalgia and national pride.
Whether you’re collecting for the artistry, the history, or simply for the love of the ludicrous, the Quirky British Traditions £2 Coin Collection is not to be missed.
